11/9/2023 0 Comments Dragon quest viii puff puff![]() ![]() I think she just doesn't feel the need to descend to that level - if she's going to beat you, it's going to be because she's tougher, not because she "puffed her pom-poms" - but that's my take.Īs for the sex for humor - I guess that would even be all right, but why not use the local bunny girls when need be? It seems that using her for the "Pom Pom" attacks is against her nature. I never thought of Jessica even thinking to use her looks - notice in the scene where she's trying to get the ship she uses intimidation and scolding. I find though that when one of the heads of the game is female (like "Castlevania" - I believe one of the producers is a woman) the heroines tend to be "sexy or cute but not slutty - unless their evil".Īnyway. Most gamers think that guys should be big and muscly - I wasn't writing about what developers think women want to see, because they a) never ask, and b) few female developers. Well, I meant what they thought "men" wanted to see. (Nobody ever talks about "bounce physics" with the "Dead or Alive" men, you notice.) To make guys in games the same as the girls in games, you'd have to give them crotches that bobbed up and down whenever they moved and hung out 6 inches in front of their pants. "Cosmo" isn't meant to get women horny - you don't see the "Cosmo" girls (well, most of the time) giving "come hither" looks - the look impossibly good, but not slutty. Look at "Cosmo"! They have sexy women in there for a woman's magazine - and women don't complain! Women in games look that way the same reason guys in games are big and musclebound - it's what people like. Side note: I saw an argument about how women are depicted in games that made me pause. They couldn't just give her armor that happened to look sexy - they had to give you Bunny Girl bathing suits with fishnet stockings to say "Hey, if you hadn't noticed, she's hot!" I guess that what bothers me is the "hit you over the head" with it. She strikes me as a woman who knows that wearing a bikini top does not increase defense, just give a giant target to enemies, and would be just as happy in a leather shirt. ![]() Which strikes me, again, the opposite of her character. ![]() And it looks like, if I want to increase her defense, I get to find sexier and sexier outfits. It's like they set out to create this wonderful female character with a nice package - and then had this war between making her a sex object. To which Jessica replies "Leave me out of this."Īnd I can agree. Which means, when you use it, she turns around, puts her hands to her breasts, and then the screen shows twittering birds as the target monster is paralyzed with love for her.Īnd then, 5 minutes later as I'm meeting the kind of Andros or whatever, and he tells the prince that his betroved has "Va Va Voon!" Of course, they emphasize this by zooming into Jessica's chest on each "Va Va", then her butt on the "Voom". So what prompted little little rant? It was the other day as I was playing, and she now has "Puff Puff Dance". Or even if they do, they don't wield it like a weapon - it's just a part of them, not the part of them. The idea that someone like Jessica who's so smart and strong wouldn't even realize her physical appeal has a spot for me. It's like the description from the guy who created Ariel, the Little Mermaid of Disney fame, when he wrote that she should be "sexy, but not realize it". So why did the developers need to give her "sex appeal" as a special ability? OK, let's even say that's OK - it's something you the player add on, and 1/16 of the time a monster won't attack because they get flying hearts over Jessica. In fact, so far, she has never even indicated any realization of her "hotness" - only of her strength and power. Not someone who's looking to push her breasts into a guy's face to get what she wants. Whenever she opens her mouth, it's as a woman who knows her power with money and prestige, who knows her command of magic, and is willing to use it. Which is directly opposite of her personality. Until you find her next "battle outfit": a "dancer's dress" with halter top and slit skirt. Now, her normal "traveling outfit" does scream "I'm going to get a big old sunburn on my breasts but you are so going to enjoy looking at it!" But that's OK - it's reasonable. Yes, I like that she's nice to look at.īut I'm constantly surprised that the writer of the story and the designers of the game didn't seem to match up. I like Jessica, who is both a) smart, b) powerful (probably one of the most powerful characters in the game), and c) sexy.
